As a responsible lighting manufacturer, we’re working hard behind the scenes to continue putting in place measures to help us minimise our impact on the environment and become a more sustainable organisation.

We began looking more keenly into sustainability back in 2018 when we set up an internal Carbon Footprint Committee. This was devised to enable us to have a dedicated team focused on the eco requirements of the lighting industry and begin developing solutions that would improve our products, materials, and manufacturing processes.

Green Applelec LED Light Sheet manufactured in the UK using recycled acrylic and high-efficiency LEDs

One such example is with alterations made to the manufacturing procedures for our architectural lighting solution, Applelec LED Light Sheet. After running a Life Cycle Analysis, we identified areas for improvement and, through ongoing research and development, engineered a more sustainable alternative: Green Applelec LED Light Sheet.

Helping to provide a more eco-conscious product, the light panel is designed for complete disassembly, allowing all components to be reused or recycled. It also incorporates recycled acrylic as standard and more energy-efficient components. Embedded with 9w/m 24V diodes, the LEDs deliver 175 lm/w, making them 35% more energy efficient than our standard LEDs.

Further reducing our carbon footprint, Green Applelec LED Light Sheet is manufactured at our West Yorkshire premises. As a Made in Britain product, this significantly cuts global emissions when compared to similar lighting products imported from overseas.

Applelec Recycling Scheme supporting end-of-life product returns for reuse and responsible disposal

In addition to our product development efforts, we’ve introduced the Applelec Recycling Scheme, providing customers with a responsible, end-of-life solution for their Applelec products. This initiative makes it easier for clients to return used products, supporting our goal of reducing landfill waste and encouraging material reuse wherever possible.

We’ve also partnered with the non-profit organisation JUST ONE Tree, supporting reforestation efforts. For every sustainable lighting solution ordered, a tree is planted on our clients’ behalf, helping to create a tangible, positive environmental impact.
