SELFRIDGES BODY STUDIO

One of the warmest white light options in the Applelec LED Light Sheet was selected by award-winning architectural lighting design studio Nulty for the creation of backlit Shoji screens at Selfridges' Body Studio.

The screens sit at the entrance to Selfridges' largest, 37,000 square foot department, where Eastern-influenced lanterns hover over escalators in the daylight-flooded courtyard. Creating an immersive entrance to the Body Studio was just one element of the lighting scheme which works to reinforce the design brief for the new space whilst making customers feel beautiful and at ease.

Designers Neri&Hu mixed Japanese and Californian influences in the design of the studio, with traditional Japanese paper screens - known as Shoji - illuminated by our UK manufactured light panel. Each screen was created using a single panel of bespoke Applelec LED Light Sheet, specially engineered for the project in consultation with the team at Nulty.

Featuring LEDs in one of our warmest white options, a 2700K colour temperature, a total of thirty-two LED Light Sheet panels, each at over 2.6 metres in height, were created to illuminate the screens. Integrated lighting within the joinery details, including the screens, provides vertical illumination within the space alongside flexible, surface mounted spotlights and considered lighting details.

Bringing together all fashion categories designed for the body, including underwear, lingerie, sleepwear, loungewear, sportswear and athletic leisurewear, the lighting envelopes the new department with a scheme that is both harmonious and energising.
